We believe that real local food is important. The “farm to table” push should not be a fad but a way of life.
Knowing your farmer and your food tells a story for every meal…
What began as a means to get rid of excess from an over ambitious farmer, to a way to help put two kids through Texas A&M, is now a passion for fifth generation farmers to bring food we love to our community. We sold wholesale to some of the top restaurants in Houston, have been published in the Houston Chronicle and Zagat, and now are going back to our roots to provide fruits and veggies direct from the farm.
Fresh Local Natural
All of our produce is grown on the farm, not shipped from Mexico or the Valley. We are 100% local, therefore we rely solely on what is in season. While we are not certified organic, we are pesticide free and that is evident in the fact that not everything is perfect- our produce has imperfections that nature intended. We joke that every purchase of corn comes with a guaranteed worm and it is true. We use non-GMO heirloom seeds whenever possible, and some of our produce is grown from seeds we have saved over the past 50 years.
With ten gardens and counting, Project Sprout has seen a significant improvement in mental and physical health for all participating community members. Other than lowering obesity, blood pressure, and depression rates, the crime rate has also fallen. Our children are doing better in school, reporting higher grades and aspirations, and better job prospects.
